Wednesday Night Kids & Youth

Royal Rangers

Royal Rangers is an adventure-based Christian mentoring program dedicated to reaching, teaching, and keeping young men for Christ.  Royal Rangers are passionate about reaching boys for Jesus Christ, teaching biblical doctrine and principles of moral conduct, and keeping them active within their local church.  Our goal is to offer a stimulating environment where a young man can grow in character, discipline, and his devotion to God.

The Royal Ranger merit award program offers a doorway to fun and excitement as each young person is encouraged to master specific knowledge and skills about camping, hiking, canoeing, backpacking, first aid, crafts, sports, and the Bible.  As young men advance through the merit system they earn badges and greater self-esteem, which enables them to become productive servants and leaders in the Body of Christ.  Royal Rangers truly believe that great leaders are developed.

Annual Events:

Royal Rangers have the opportunity to be involved in many memorable events throughout the calendar year.  We kick off the calendar year with our annual Manly-Man Winter Campout in February.  That’s right! The Rangers and their fathers spend a weekend tent-camping in the great white north of Michigan.  (Don’t worry moms, we have always brought them back alive.)

Then it’s time to rev-up your engines in March for the annual Pinewood Derby.  There is the Royal Ranger Father & Son Summer Camp in June, which for some reason is always more popular than the winter camping trip.  We have a Father, Son & Daughter Fishing Trip in July, and finally the annual Squirrel Hunt in September. There are always great activities available for every type of explorer.

Ranger Pledge:
With God’s help I will do my best to serve God, my church, and my fellowman; to live by the Ranger Code; to make the Golden Rule my daily rule.

The Royal Ranger Code:
Alert: He is mentally, physically, and spiritually alert.
Clean: He is clean in body, mind, and speech.
Honest:  He does not lie, cheat, or steal.
Courageous: He is brave in spite of danger, criticism, or threats.
Loyal: He is faithful to his church, family, outpost, and friends.
Courteous: He is polite, kind, and thoughtful.
Obedient: He obeys his parents, leaders, and those in authority.
Spiritual: He prays, reads the Bible, and witnesses.

Motto: Ready!  Ready to work, play, serve, worship, live, and obey God’s word.

Senior Commander:
Brian Jefferies

The Royal Rangers program seeks to develop the total boy for Christ, and is based upon the core principles of evangelism, discipleship, leadership, achievement, and service, which are represented by their pledge, code, motto, and emblem.

Royal Rangers Summer Camp-out

Every summer,  the Royal Rangers head out to Independence Oaks campground for a weekend of fun in the sun.  The weekend of tent camping is designed to bond the hearts of fathers and sons together.

The Royal Rangers participate in father and son games, hiking, biking on trails, crafts, fishing, tree climbing, water sports, and the usual BB gun shooting contest.  There is a time of silly songs, skits, and stories around the campfire.

Before heading back home to suburban life on Sunday morning, the boys spend time worshiping the Lord in an open air worship service and are challenged by a speaker who shares a devotion especially tailored for their needs.

What is Missionettes?

Missionettes is a cool club just for girls. It is a tool used by our church to mentor girls in their walk with Jesus Christ and to train them to follow Him.  The girls have fun each Wednesday night learning about the Lord, good manners, hair care, games, cooking, babysitting, and a wide variety of crafts.  Many lasting friendships are begun in Missionettes.  It is a time for girls to gather with other girls who love God and be mentored by an adult female sponsor who cares about them.  It is open to girls from 3rd through 8th grades.

We hold an annual event called the Bakeoff Contest. This is for girls who are in 4th grade through 8th grade.  They bake cookies and are judged on taste and appearance.  All participants receive a prize and other prizes are awarded to first, second, and third place. The next one will be held in the spring of 2016.

The Fivefold Purpose of Missionettes

  1. Winning girls to Jesus Christ through love and acceptance.
  2. Teaching girls to obey everything Jesus commanded us – helping girls to develop spiritually and mentally.
  3. Providing encouragement, support and accountability through lasting Christian relationships.
  4. Providing an environment for girls to develop their gifts and abilities.
  5. Acquainting girls with the Great Commission of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Missionette’s Code – Philippians 4:8

“Whatsoever things are true,
Whatsoever things are honest,
Whatsoever things are just,
Whatsoever things are pure,
Whatsoever things are lovely,
Whatsoever things are of good report:
If there be any virtue,
And if there be any praise,
Think on these things.”

The Missionette’s Song:
We Are Missionettes”

We are Missionettes for Jesus,
Arm in arm we stand together as one.
We are Missionettes for Jesus,
Living now in purity, walking in truth and love.
We will be helpful, loyal and kind,
Fully committed to doing right with a pure heart,
Boldly shining our light

Missionette Clubs:

The Rainbow’s group is for 3 & 4 year old boys and girls.  It is an exciting time to learn Bible stories, make crafts, complete full-color activity pages, and play games for this preschool club.  Rainbows add colorful animal badges to their vests as they complete requirements for the achievement program. Units can be completed in four weeks, and there are nine units for the year.

The Daisies group is for girls in Kindergarten and first grade.  This group is designed in such a way as to deepen the girls’ love for Jesus Christ and each other.  Our Daisy program is built around the Daisy pledge which builds upon the characteristics of cheerfulness, helpfulness, and doing good.  Each meeting includes time for songs, learning the Daisy pledge, prayer requests, devotion, story time, craft time, games, and snack.  Throughout the year they earn colorful and unique badges that can be worn on their hats.   One of the highlights of the year is the annual Tea Party where each girl receives their own tea cup and other special mementos.

“I love the tea party!” – Annabelle

This class is for second and third grade girls.  The mission of the Prims class is to develop a greater understanding of our Lord and to learn about many of the different areas that are involved in being a believer and follower of Jesus Christ.  To achieve this mission, we do different projects throughout the year:

  1. Sewing project about Jesus being willing to humble himself, become a man, and go to the cross for us.
  2. The study of famous Christian martyrs and missionaries
  3. Book and quilt project focusing on Christian character

“I like learning to sew” – Katrina

This class is for 4th and 5th grade girls. As with all children, this age group loves hands on activities and their minds and hearts are quick to learn and grasp Christian truths. In the weekly classes the girls will apply their hearts to wisdom by observing 4 Worlds: The World of Truth (basic Christian doctrine), The World Around You (missions & evangelism), the World About You (crafts and activities), and The World Within You (character development). Through Bible study, world maps and culture study, and many different crafts, cooking and serving activities, the Stars class is a way for Christian girls to really shine!

“I learn really cool things in Stars class.” – Bethany

This class is for girls in 6th grade through 8th grade.  Girls this age are full of hopes, dreams, excitement and questions.  The goal of our Friends group is to help direct these young girls to God and His Word and encourage them to trust Him and their parent’s direction as they navigate life’s path.  In our weekly classes, the girls have the opportunity to develop friendships and share growing up together in a safe and Christ-centered environment.  We strive to provide a variety of activities that are challenging, educational and fun.  Sometimes, we just enjoy doing something creative together like cross stitching or making a craft.  Other times, we take on a one or two month-long project that stimulates learning and memory skills.  Some of these kinds of on-going projects have been:

  • The Walk Thru the Bible program (selected portions)
  • The Christian Conflict Resolution series from Peacemakers
  • Learning about missionaries
  • Listening together to an ongoing Christian allegory like The War for Mansoul or Pilgrim’s Progress

“I really enjoyed The Sermon on the Mount series using horses to teach biblical truths” – Sarah

Youth Group & Singles

Zach contemplates a strategy for serious competition at the Wilds.

Youth Group

In today’s hectic society there are many voices attempting to influence a young person’s life.  Teens are constantly being bombarded with negative and even harmful messages by the prince of the power of the air, who comes as a thief to steal and ruin a young person’s potential.  High school students face tremendous peer pressure to conform to the ways of the world, and many times they need support outside of the home in order to stand against the schemes of the enemy.  The youth group at Calvary Christian Church offers a safe haven for young people to be strengthened and encouraged in their walk with God.

The youth department at Calvary Christian Church inspires young people to develop an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ through praise, prayer, and Bible study.  It is our aspiration to see young people grow in the knowledge and revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ so that they might be equipped to handle the stress of life in a way that glorifies God.  At Calvary, teens have an opportunity to develop strong Christian relationships within a loving and fun environment that will fortify their spiritual walk.

In the midst of these perilous times, it is wonderful to see God bringing up a generation of youth who have a heart to know the Lord.  Calvary’s youth group motto is DARE TO LIVE, which stands for Disciples Alert and Ready To Experience Life In View of Eternity.  Their life verse is Proverbs 28:1, “The righteous are as bold as a lion.”  One of the primary purposes of the youth group is to prepare high school students to be effective disciples of Jesus Christ.  It is our desire to empower young people to be witnesses for the kingdom of God.

We schedule regular weekly meetings, as well as, outreach programs, and social events throughout the year in order to provide a stimulating atmosphere that is fun and encouraging in the faith.

Singles Group

The single’s ministry is designed to meet the needs of young people of active college age and beyond.  Many singles are extremely busy with the affairs of this life.  Some singles work two jobs, go to school full time, and they faithfully serve within the local church’s choir, orchestra, and with various children’s ministries.

Singles need a time to get away from their frantic lifestyles and find nourishment for their soul through structured activities.  We have a weekly Sunday school class to meet the spiritual needs of young people, and we organize social events in order to strengthen and encourage godly relationships within the Body of Christ.

If your spiritual walk needs energizing, get plugged into Calvary’s Single’s Group.
