Worship Ministries

DSC_0036 - CopyAt Calvary Christian Church, we believe that praise and worship are an essential part of the New Testament Church’s gathering together. The Bible teaches us that God-centered worship draws the presence of the Lord to His people. It plows the soil of the heart and prepares the believer to hear the Word of God, and it requires active participation. Sacred worship is not a “spectator event”, nor is it meant to entertain the church member or “seeker” – it is a love offering to God!

Jesus said in John’s gospel, “…the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” The Bible is the infallible revelation of God’s ways to mankind, and if we are to worship in spirit and in truth, we must pattern our worship after the Scriptures and not our personal opinions, preferences, or traditions. Christ’s bride, the Church, is to only function in expressions of worship that are Biblical. Sincerity, desire, and authenticity are not the barometers of true, godly worship – the Word of God is. God-centered worship is not what suits my preference, but what God has commanded in His Word; not what makes me feel good, but what attracts the presence of the Lord. At Calvary Christian Church, it is our joy and privilege to offer the sacrifice of praise to the Lord singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and to exalt Him through all Biblical expressions of praise and worship.

Worship Ministries

Those who humbly serve in Calvary’s worship ministries use their God-given musical ability to magnify the Lord by providing an atmosphere of praise and worship during the services. It is our purpose, as we worship with voice and instruments, to offer a skillful sacrifice of praise that exalts the Lord and edifies His saints.

When our worship ministries serve singing, or playing we do not give opportunity for congregational applause. We have one goal and purpose – with one heart and one voice to turn our attention and affection to the Lord.
A verse from a well known song illustrates this so eloquently –

“…if all I’ve done in the time we’ve shared
Is turn your eyes on me,
Then I’ve failed at what I’m called to do
There’s Someone else I want you to see…”

Calvary Worship Choir

Like the Levitical choirs of ancient Israel, our worship choir functions with the awareness that we are first and foremost to minister to the Lord. It is our conviction that if He is exalted and glorified, His Spirit will minister to and edify His people. Our goal as a choir is to sing as one, though many, and to lead the congregation into worship.

Choir practices takes place every Wednesday evening following the main service, and the choir sings monthly as well as for special services.

Our church orchestra is made up of skilled musicians who accompany with woodwind, brass, and stringed instruments praising the Lord on their instruments throughout the Sunday morning worship service. At times, the orchestra is called on to accompany the choir and worship team, and plays for special occasions and services such as baby dedications and the annual Memorial Day service.

“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.” Ps. 150:3 – 6

How to Serve

“Sing unto him a new song; play skillfully…” Ps. 33:3

Opportunities to be a part of these ministries are available to those with God-given musical ability, and who have the desire to exalt the Lord through it. Along with looking for proficiency in voice or instrument, we are seeking individuals who are at least 18 years of age and have grown into true worshippers of the Heavenly Father.

These ministries are not intended to be used as creative outlets, but they are to be a calling to minister unto the Lord. Members of Calvary Christian Church may contact Pastor David Byers for openings and auditions.
